Psalms 23:4 – Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Meditation – is it actually death that we fear? The visual narrative that King David takes us on makes the point that death isn’t the issue at all, but rather the unease felt by the uncertainty of life; the evil that is always present; the idea that our enemy at various moments appears stronger than us. Like David, we ought to be emboldened by the rod and staff of the Lord; finding comfort in the sound of them beating against the ground, guiding us through the darkness. Being assured also that He is willing to use both to stave off dangers. His rod and staff negates our need for any weapons. We need only listen to Him. He will guide until the day is done.
