Isaiah 43:18-19 (ESV) – Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Meditation – consider this; forgetting the past is about realizing we aren’t bound by the shame of former decisions. Sure, we must accept the consequences of our choices, but, we don’t have to wallow in guilt and self-pity. This is the key to repentance; no longer allowing past sins to bind us. Consider Peter, who denied Christ but then went on and preached the first gospel sermon. It’s about Newness. But, We’ll never be able to receive new things until we are willing to let go of the old. When we truly believe in the promises of The Lord concerning our life, we know that letting go of the weight of the past is a major step in preparing to receive this new Thing He said he’d do.
