More Jesus – Day 2

It’s always the same thing. We see something, we want it, we get it, we end up despising it. Repeat cycle. Dead ends, false starts, hopes that continue to be crushed by those we should not have put any hope in. When does it end? For many, it’s a never ending cycle of frustration where we never come to a full understanding of how to pull ourselves away from those things that are slowly destroying us.

The reality is, as much as we will say we want something better, what we are really articulating through our actions is that we simply want a slightly-improved version of what already had. This is why we will seemingly find ourselves in the same dead-end situations over and over again. What we end up dealing with are incremental improvements over something we had already deemed insufficient. And yet, The Lord is saying we can have something BETTER. He’s saying we can have BETTER, but, we must first clear ourselves of the old.

The words of The Lord in Matthew 9:16-17.

16 No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

It all boils down to this….

If you want something new and blessed, then, NEW RULES APPLY.

New rules have to apply because the old rules you’ve always been inclined to follow have betrayed you. New rules have to apply because doing it your way has led to all sorts of problems in your life. New rules have to apply because God is preparing your heart to receive something better, but, He cannot do his work if you still holding onto the old things that have held you back. Just like the wine bottles, If The Lord is going to pour his spirit into you, then your heart must be rid of all those old things that would ruin the newness of what The Lord has in store for you.

New Day, New Opportunities, New Mercies, New Blessings.. New Rules.

Bless The Lord.

  • I agree with this wholeheartedly. I found myself in the never ending cycle of the same problems, only slightly different from the first. There are so many important steps we have to learn and continue to learn (those rules). I believe it takes study of the Bible, listening to and applying the Word that is being preached to your life, and wanting a true change with all your heart. You cannot expect to be baptized and you are now the greatest, purest person you have ever been (spiritually, yes, because all of your sins have been washed away but in the flesh, no). You cannot expect there to be no more problems. I think some people may believe that. Anyway, it also takes courage to examine yourself and stop blaming others. You have to maintain that newness with examining yourself, working on having a pure heart, clean hands, and so much more. And through it all you have to keep (and if you don’t already have gain) trust and faith in the Lord and let the Holy Spirit guide you!
