But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; — I Peter 2:9
One of my all-time favorite movies is John Q. In it, the title character, played by Denzel Washington, finds himself in a position where he is unable to pay for an important medical procedure for his son and therefore decides to take matters into his own hands. In perhaps the most poignant scene of the movie, John gives off a list if advice for his son to follow and in the midst utters these words;
If somebody chooses you, you stand up, you be a man.
The Lord chose us. But, not only did He choose us – He exalted us, ordained a territory in which we reside, and made us different. Peter goes into great detail of all the things the Lord has done in preparing us for His service, but, the most essential of those is the first; He Chose Us. He chose us, and because He chose us, we ought to stand up and be counted. We need to understand also that because He chose us, He has also prepared us for His service. Therefore, even when we feel that the battle may be too much to handle, He has full confidence in our ability to persevere.
He Chose Us. The question now becomes, How will you respond?
Bless The Lord.
