Romans 12:19-21 – Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Perhaps our greatest growth as disciples will come in us learning to love those who are clearly against us. In this, knowing that the Promises of God are true, we need not be concerned about what will happen to our enemies, rather treating them with the compassion required as followers of the Lord. this love, which goes beyond tolerating them, should move us to action, overcoming evil with good. We do not know how the heart of our enemy might be changed by the power of our love.
