I Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV) – Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
More than feelings and emotions, and ideals, states, and attitudes, and more than affection, love is a standard. And, even while it is a matter of guessing for some, and a source of confusion for others, we know that having a standard means we can identify and avoid a counterfeit. And, even while people continue to practice what they think is love in any number of different ways, at its core, love is clearly defined; and, because of this, if we’re honest, we should never be confused with what love is and is not.
